Victor Baumgartner, 80, Braddock, ND, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, June 6, 2011 at a Bismarck Hospital. His life and death will be celebrated with a mass at St. Katherine's Catholic Church, Braddock, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 with an honorary burial service at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan to follow at 2:00 p.m. where Victor's body will be laid to eternal rest. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 8, 2011 from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, ND with Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Victor was born February 20, 1931 on a farm near Hague, ND to John Baumgartner and Margaret (Imberi) Baumgartner. He attended country grade school and Hague High School. He graduated with a 4.0 grade point average from the State School of Science in Wahpeton where he studied diesel mechanics. Victor married the love of his life, Lois Mosser, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in 1953. That same year he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country until 1955. During his service he was stationed in Fort Riley, KS; White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico and Fort Carson, CO. After his service in the US Army, he returned to Hague where he worked construction and maintained county roads in southern Emmons County. In 1958, Victor, along with his wife and three children, moved to Braddock. There he continued working for Emmons County and doing construction work until December, 1962. At that time he was hired by Standard Oil as an agent providing gas and fuel to farmers in the area. In 1972 he was appointed the Standard Oil agent in Napoleon where his eldest son, David, worked as his partner for several years forming Baumgartner Oil Company. During this time Victor also installed and repaired furnaces and air conditioning units in the area. Baumgartner Oil Company also provided crop and cattle spraying for several years. Victor was a hard working business man that served his community for many years. He never met a stranger and was known for his generosity and hospitality. In the early 1980's, Baumgartner Oil Company invested in two semi trucks and trailers to expand their business to Baumgartner Oil and Trucking. Vic retired from the oil and trucking business in 2003 after 31 years of service. Vic was a member of St. Katherine's Catholic Church in Braddock, a charter member of the Braddock Lion's Club and the South Central Threshing Association. He loved his old tractors and loved to spend endless hours working to make them run to his satisfaction. Vic was a member of the American Legion in Hazelton and the Elks Club in Bismarck. He served on the Braddock Public School Board and as treasurer and mayor of the city of Braddock. He also served on the Linton Hospital Board, as a volunteer firefighter and as a director on the BEK Telephone Board for 27 years. Victor is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lois; his three sons and daughters-in-law: David and Sandra (Jangula) Baumgartner of Braddock, Steve and Sandra (Human) Baumgartner of Bismarck and Dean and Seanna (Ramsey) Baumgartner of Chandler, AZ; his four daughters and sons-in-law: Jeanette and Terry Howe of Bismarck, Nancy and Steve Kane of Brooklyn Park, MN, Pam and Ken Danforth of Fort Collins, CO and Heidi and Andrew Holloway of San Tan Valley, AZ. He is also survived by three sisters and one brother-in-law: Mildred and Francis Schall of Bismarck, Delores Hennesey of New York, NY and Lenora Muehler of Bismarck; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Peter and DeLylia Baumgartner of Bismarck and Daniel and Alvina Baumgartner of Aberdeen, SD. Victor has two surviving Aunts: Jean Huber of Watertown, MN and Anne Hartze of Aberdeen, SD; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Carol Fettig of Steele, Rosanne Perkins of Hardin, MT and Rachel and Mark Stroda of Yellowtail, MT, four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law Russel and Linda Perkins of Payton, Co, Dennis and Carole Bollinger of West Fargo, Gary and Sharon Bollinger of Cold Springs, MN, and Bill Perkins of Dillon, CO. Victor was best known for the love he gave and received from his 23 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws; two brothers-in-law: Harvey Fettig and Wayne Perkins and one sister-in-law, Mary Bollinger.
