Victor Ratu

1934 - 2025

On August 11, 2025 we lost our father, grandfather, Great-grandfather, mentor and friend. Victor Ratu was born September 6, 1934 to Nicholas & Anna (Vasiu) Ratu, who immigrated to Michigan from Romania. Vic graduated from Carson City High School with the class of 1952. He married Mary Anne Peiffer that same year at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carson City. From this union, two sons were born, Nicholas (Pete) and John.

In his younger years, Vic hauled milk, farmed and worked at Mitchell- Bentley in Ionia. In 1964, he began working for the State of Michigan at the Ionia State Hospital and later the Michigan Training Unit. He retired after 26 years of service.

Vic enjoyed playing cards, snowmobiling, pool parties with family and friends, cutting firewood, reading, and family meals with lots of laughter. But, most of all, he loved spoiling his grandsons and watching them play football, baseball and hockey.

Vic is survived by son John (Ann) and daughter-in-law Leisa. He is also survived by grandsons Jordan (Laura), Jonah (friend Autumn), and Lucas, as well as great-grandchildren Hudson & Harlow. He was predeceased by wife Mary Anne, son Pete, grandson Caleb, and sister Mary Allen.

Per Vic's wishes, there will be no service. Arrangements in care of Lake Funeral Home in Muir. Those desiring, may make a memorial contribution in Vic's memory to the Maple View Retirement Community (a non-profit) at 4396 S. Luce Rd., Ithaca, Michigan 48847.
