Victor Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Corey Funeral Home - Evart on Jan. 27, 2026.
Victor Eugene Smith Jr., 82, of Big Rapids, formerly of Reed City, entered into rest on Saturday, January 25, 2026.

Born on September 20, 1943, in Lansing, Michigan, Victor was the son of Victor and Mary (Mills) Smith. He graduated from Farwell High School in 1961 and, a few years later, answered the call to serve his country. In 1965, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he earned both the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal-recognition of his dedication and courage.

After his military service, Vic built a long and steady career at Collins and Aikman in Evart, where he later retired. His dedication to service extended far beyond his professional life. Vic volunteered as a firefighter in Evart, responding to emergencies with the same sense of duty that had guided him in the military. He also served as an auxiliary deputy for Clare County, a role he embraced with seriousness and pride. Whether he was helping his neighbors, supporting local efforts, or simply lending a hand where one was needed, Victor lived his life with a quiet but steady commitment to his community.

Those who knew him best will remember his heart of gold, his sharp wit, and the unmistakable spark that made him uniquely Vic. He was a man who loved deeply, felt strongly, and lived with conviction. His fiery spirit-sometimes quick to flare, always rooted in passion-was part of what made him unforgettable.

Vic was preceded in death by: his parents, his siblings; JoAnn (William) Margetson, Dorthy "Tootie" (Al) Gendreau and Betty (Richard) King and numerous extended family and friends.

Those left to carry on his legacy are; his niece, Melissa Margetson and close friend, Brad Elton.

To his family, friends, and all who crossed his path, Vic was a man of strength and substance. He could be tough, he could be tender, and he was always authentically himself.
