Victor William Steinhoffer, Jr., 58, of South Bend, passed away Saturday evening, December 3, 2005 in his home after a year long battle with cancer. Victor was born February 27, 1947, in South Bend, to Victor Steinhoffer, Sr. and the late Elsie (Fisher) Steinhoffer. He grew up in his loved German Township in South Bend, graduated from Washington High School in 1965, and served in the United States Army in Vietnam. On May 1, 1992, Victor married long time friend, Linda (Collins) Kostin. She survives along with a daughter, Kristina (Jeffery) Beatty and three grandsons, Jordan, Ryan and Orren all of South Bend. His Father and Step-Mother, Victor, Sr. and Grace Steinhoffer of Benton Harbor, Michigan and Eustis, Florida. A sister, Cynthia Wells of Van Nuys, California. A stepbrother, Dale (Mary Jane) Dean, Sr. of Berrien Springs, Michigan and many nieces and nephews. Victor was proceeded in death by his mother, a sister, Judy Steinhoffer and Brother-in-law, John Wells. Victor continued his education at Lake Michigan College and Michigan Tech working toward a degree in metallurgy. Victor was a scale repairman, starting work with his father at Michiana Scale many years ago and was currently employed with Grand Rapids Scale, Michiana Division located in Benton, Harbor, Michigan. Victor was involved in 4-H for many years, lived to see the Detroit Auto Show every January, worshiped his old John Deere tractor and was a member of the Michiana Two-Cylinder Club. Visitors will be received on Thursday, December 8, 2005 from 4 to 8 pm at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 9, 2005 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 SR 933 North, South Bend, IN. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwest Children�s Learning Center, 21855 Brick Rd, South Bend, IN 46628; Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 SR 933 N, South Bend, IN 46637 or the Cancer Society of St. Joseph County, 711 E. Colfax Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617. Family and Friends may also send condolences and sign a virtual guestbook online, at www.kaniewski.com
