Vida Ruth Cavener died on July 13th, 2024 in her home surrounded by family.
Vida was born May 13, 1930, in Montague County, Texas to Clemmon Houston
Sitton and Bessie Mae Robins Sitton. She was raised in rural Texas on a farm.
She was one of four children. She attended high school in Hardeman County,
Texas. She worked as a nurse aide in Quanah, Texas, where she was loved by
many patients.
Vida had 3 children with her first husband, James Macom: Carolyn Lavin Cook
(Chuck), Tomas Charles Macom, and Floyd Houston "Houie" Macom. She was
blessed with 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-
grandchildren. She also cherished two nieces, Lee Leverett and Clara Hill.
Vida married Gerald Wayne Cavener on October 23rd, 1970. Gerald had four
children: Becky Denham (Dan), Ricky Cavener (LeeAnn), Gregg Cavener
(Debra), Scott Cavener (Kathy), and seven grandchildren, and ten great
grandchildren.
Gerald and Vida spent their early marriage working on a farm outside of
Eldorado, Oklahoma. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling the country in their
motorhome. They spent winters in Southern Texas where they enjoyed many
friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eldorado.
Vida enjoyed gardening, canning her produce, crocheting afghans and pot
holders, and a variety of other crafts. She also enjoyed spending time with her
family. She loved hosting large holiday dinners in her home. She made the best
fudge around.
Vida is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Gerald, daughter
Carolyn, and grandson Craig. Memorials are suggested to Jackson County
Home Health and Hospice. The family is welcoming guests for visitation from
6:00-8:00 PM on July 17th, 2024, at Lowell Tims Funeral Home in Altus,
Oklahoma. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on July 18th, 2024, at
Eldorado Cemetery in Eldorado, Oklahoma.
