In Loving Memory of Vilma
Vilma's life was a testament to courage, sacrifice and love. Born in Progreso, Honduras, she completed her studies in accounting before moving to New Orleans at a young age, embracing a new culture and language with determination. She raised three children on her own and took pride in seeing each of them pursue their own path, including earning degrees from prestigious universities.
Pursuing her passion for education, Vilma attended the University of New Orleans, focusing on early childhood education. She dedicated many years to teaching English to newly immigrated children in Orleans Parish, becoming a mentor for countless students. Her patience and empathy left a mark on the community she served.
In retirement, Vilma embraced the simple joys of life-painting, gardening, exercising, eating healthily and spending time with her family. Her strength was evident as she bravely battled chronic heart failure and cancer, facing each day with grace and courage. A nurturing grandmother and an inspiring soul, Vilma's legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all who were touched by her kindness.
She is survived by her loving daughter Claudia, sons Frank and Ed, six cherished grandchildren-Jack, Nasya, Arabella, Ashley, Jessica and Lucas-and three adored great-grandchildren. Vilma's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, resilience, and service. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the lives she touched and the family she built. Her memory will forever be a blessing.
