Vincent Deorio Obituary

Vincent John Deorio

In 1955, this small mail order business he had worked for was being closed due to the acquisition of the land for construction of Interstate 95. Steve Reynolds, the then current owner, decided not to continue the business. It was at this time Vincent decided to purchase the name and the mailing list after returning from serving his Country in the United States Air Force. Having earned a degree in Horticulture from Cornell University, he set out to build his dream nursery. He purchased a plot of land at 23 Richards Avenue, where he began to raise his family, and develop what is now currently, Reynolds Farms Nursery and Country Garden Center.
He is survived by his wife, Marja Liisa Deorio, his son John Deorio of Norwalk, his two children, Jamie Deorio of Bristol, Jessica (Deorio) Lindley and her husband Jonathon, their children Cooper and Sienna of Wallingford, his son Jeffrey Deorio, his wife Megan, their three children Matthew and his wife Jessica, their son Owen, of Norwalk, Paul Deorio of Norwalk, and Caroline (Deorio) Campana and her husband Marco of Stamford. As well as, three nieces, Rosemary Davis and her husband Scott of Missouri, Melanie Davis of Texas, and Patricia Aurthur and her husband Dan of Florida.
In addition to his parents, Vincent was predeceased by his brother Samuel Deorie, his sister Mary DiOrio, his two sons, James Deorio and Jay Deorio both of Norwalk, and his niece Joanie Muse of California.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 25, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 26, at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, CT. I started at Reynolds Farms when I was 14 and worked there through High School and for a few months after my time in the Marines. Vinnie taught me more about hard work, business and life than any other mentor I've ever had. He worked us hard, told us stories and jokes and answered our teenage questions about women and sex. I had my first nip of scotch while selling Christmas trees in the freezing cold with the older guys. I will always be grateful that I "went to school" working for Vinnie at Reynolds Farms.

I always enjoyed the excellent advice I received from Vinny over the decades I have visited Reynold's Farms. I also enjoyed helping him frame his paintings. He will be missed by all but fondly remembered as well.
