Vincent (Vinnie) DiPierro passed into the heavenly light on Friday, October 3, 2025. He was 89 years of age.
Vinnie was born in Bisceglie, Italy, on January 3, 1936, to Giovanni and Angela (Ventura) DiPierro. He was the youngest of seven children. Sailing on the SS Andrea Doria, he emigrated to
Peekskill, New York, in 1953 at the age of 17. In 1959, Vinnie proudly became a United States Citizen. He married Jo-Ann Bertoline in 1963 at the Assumption Church in Peekskill.
After his first job as a dishwasher, Vinnie became a Master Butcher and worked for First National supermarket in Yonkers, NY. Eventually, he joined his brothers in the family business, Hygeia Ice and Fuel in Peekskill. After Vinnie retired from Hygeia, he worked again as a Master Butcher at the Grand Union and Cole's Market in Buchanan.
Vinnie dedicated his life to helping others. He loved being a volunteer firefighter serving with the Columbian Hose No. 1 and the Cortlandt Hook and Ladder companies for more than 65 years. He was promoted to the rank of Captain and served as a Trustee. Vinnie was also a long standing member of the Westchester County Volunteer Firemen's Association.
Joining in 1980, Vinnie was an active member of the Rotary Club of Peekskill. In 1988, he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow. His favorite Rotary event was the annual Horse Show where he would man the grill in the cooking tent. Vinnie was also a life member of the Peekskill Elks #744. In 2013, he was honored by the Italian Heritage Society for his service to the community and his country of origin.
Vinnie loved to travel to Europe with his wife Jo-Ann, family and friends, most often visiting Italy to spend time with his sisters and extended family. He enjoyed caring for his vegetable garden and many said he had the best tomatoes around. Vinnie was an avid soccer fan. He loved coaching and refereeing youth soccer and enjoyed watching games, cheering on his favorite teams. Vinnie was a devoted husband, beloved father and grandfather. He cherished the time spent with his sons and grandchildren.
Vinnie is survived by his wife Jo-Ann (Bertoline) DiPierro, sons Vincent (Maria) DiPierro, Dean (Laura) DiPierro, and Matt (Cathy) Donnelly; and his grandchildren, Cassandra, Nick, Alexandra, Dean, Evelyn and Kate. He is also survived by his sister Suora Grazina DiPierro, a nun at the Divine Providence in Bisceglie, Italy. He was predeceased by his siblings Pete, Frank ("Dominick"), Sergio, and Catherine.
Visitation is at John F. Nardone Funeral Home on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit on Tuesday, October 7, 202,5, at 10:15 am, followed by a Christian Burial at Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rotary Club of Peekskil l or the Peekskill Volunteer Firefighters Association.
