Vincent (Jimmy) Mongiardo passed away on December 26, 2024 at the age of 91. He is resting eternally with his parents, wife, and daughter. Throughout his life he was known for his selflessness, generosity, and kindness to others. He was a caregiver to his mother, devoted to his daughters, siblings, and nieces and nephew. As an Italian immigrant in the 1930s, he faced many challenges in school and the Brooklyn neighborhood where he was raised. As a result, he tried in every way to facilitate the educational and social aspects of his younger sisters' lives. He often tutored us and, because he was artistic, helped us with our art projects. He even had us memorize the names of the presidents, including their middle names or initials. He delighted in sharing his knowledge.
As a child and during his teens, he dealt with health issues that would affect him his entire life. Unfortunately medical knowledge and treatment for his condition was not available at the time. With the support of his family, he always did his best and endured.
Jimmy was an avid fan of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and he often mystified us with the breadth of his knowledge. He loved engaging in friendly wagers with his nieces and nephew. One of his favorite expressions was, "I'll give you a dollar if you know the answer." He paid and bellowed with laughter.
He, like his mother, loved to sing and he was blessed with a beautiful voice. Italian opera was among his passions and his renditions of tenor arias were impressive. He enjoyed the music and movies of the forties and fifties and could easily sing the songs and name the stars, including their real names. His memory often astounded us.
Jimmy was beloved by his family, his employer and colleagues, his friends, and his caregivers. He was sustained by all of them along with his faith. May God lovingly welcome him and grant him peace.
