Vincent Scully Obituary

Vincent Joseph Scully Jr. passed away peacefully on September 21, 2021 after a short illness. He was 83 years old. Vince was born in Southwest Philadelphia on July 9, 1938 to the late Vincent Patrick Scully and Mary Agnes Ryan. He was the oldest of three children. He spent many happy years with wife Elizabeth “Betty” Anne (née Weinmann), whom he met during their years at West Philadelphia Catholic High and married in 1956. He was an employee, and eventually proprietor, of Vincent P. Scully and Sons’ Printing, and later worked for the Philadelphia Housing Authority. After his retirement, he worked for Pacifico Marple Ford Lincoln, continuing to stay active and meeting new people. Vince devoted his lifetime to charitable service. He was involved with youth education through Elmwood Park Boys & Girls Club, St. Clement’s CYO, West Catholic Fathers Club, and CCD. He was a member of benevolent fraternal associations including Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), and Irish Northern Aid. He was a devout Catholic and was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. In his later years, as a resident of Clifton Heights, PA, he sang with St. James Alumni Choir and was its resident kazooist. A kind and patient man, Vince loved to talk and to tell stories. He was particularly famous for his corny jokes and puns, of which he never ran out. He loved nature and animals, and enjoyed spending time at the National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum as well at home with his pets. Vince will be missed dearly. He was predeceased by his wife Betty, younger sister Mary Anne Infante, and sister-in-law Helen Schell. He is survived by brother Gary, three children Elizabeth (Michael) Williams, Vincent J. Scully III, and Frederick Scully, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 9:30-10:20 AM at St. Gabriel’s Church, Norwood, PA. Mass will begin at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Vince’s memory to Saint John’s Hospice (https://saintjohnshospice.org/).
