Viola Smith Cook

Viola Smith Cook, 75, of Morganton, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at her residence following a period of declining health. Viola was born November 10, 1946 in Wisconsin to the late Litten Elbert Smith and Peggy Rumsey Smith. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and worked most of her career at Burke Mills. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Joanne; brothers, Vernon, Tom, and Howard; daughter-in-law, Amanda Benfield; son-in-laws, Greg Jones, Willie Spencer, and CB Pritchard; step-son Ben Cook; and great-grandchildren, Adrien and Jaleyha Cordova and their father, Ignacio Cordova. She is survived by her husband, Aaron Vernon "A.V." Cook; daughters, LaTonia Spencer; Debbie Lawson, Jennifer Jones, and Rita Freeman; sons, Larry Benfield, Daniel Cook, Jon Cook and wife Kim, and Aaron Cook and wife Lisa; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; five sisters; and three brothers. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Pete McCombs and Dr. Jack Hodges Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service on Monday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
