Schertz Funeral Home and Crematory - SchertzViola E. Dries (nee Zimmerman) age 87, of Schertz TX passed away on June 15,2025. Vi transitioned to eternal peace with her family nearby holding her hand and comforting her. She was born on April 3, 1938 to Irene and Bernard Zimmerman in West Palm Beach, FL and remained there until she married in 1956 to Edward A. Dries. Vi was a strong and loving woman who was a military wife for many years before settling in Schertz, TX with her husband and four children.
Vi was a very talented seamstress and excelled in crocheting as well as other needlework and crafts. She enjoyed bowling, cooking and baking for her many friends and family. She was also an active member of the Schertz United Methodist Church participating in several women’s groups and bible studies. Above all, she loved her family the most.
Vi was pre-deceased by her husband of 64 years, Edward A. Dries, her parents, Irene and Bernard Zimmerman and a brother, Reed Zimmerman. She is survived by her four children: Edward Allen Dries, Robert R. Dries (Lisa) both of Marion, TX, Debra L Griffith (Rick) of San Antonio, TX and David W Dries of Louisiana. In addition to her children, she had nine grandchildren, many great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. Vi is also survived by her sister Leah Zimmerman Rock of West Palm Beach, FL. Many in-laws, nieces and nephews along with extensive friends and family will miss her warm smile and generous giving attributes.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life honoring Vi on Saturday October 25, 2005 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Schertz United Methodist Church at 3460 Roy Richard Dr., Schertz, TX. Interment of ashes will be private at Fort Sam Houston at a later date convenient for the family.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Schertz United Methodist Church in her memory.
