Violet "Vi/Nana" Abernathy Burdick, age 94, loving wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother passed away peacefully September 9, 2025, in
Vancouver, WA. Vi was born in
Alamosa, Colorado on December 8, 1930 to parents, Guy Gilbert Abernathy and Narissa Thelma Harmon Abernathy. She was the fourth of seven children; Thelma, Al, Ken, Dale, Truman and Gene. Vi's parents, moved from Colorado to Vancouver with their seven children to live in the Sifton area when she was 9 years old. She graduated from the old Union High School and on her 20th birthday married the love of her life, her childhood neighbor and high school sweetheart, Lynn Burdick. Lynn and Vi had 3 daughters (Kristi, Jamie and Tammi). In 1963 Lynn was promoted and transferred from Camas Crown Zellerbach to the Bogalusa, Louisiana Paper Mill. While there, Vi worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Assistant to the Mayor of Bogalusa. They lived there until 1973 when Lynn was again promoted and transferred back to Camas. After returning to Vancouver, Vi worked as a legal secretary for the law firm of Landerholm, Memovich, Lansverk, Marsh and Whitesides until she retired.
Vi's family was the greatest love of her life. Lynn and Vi treasured time spent with family; camping trips, taking care of grandchildren, attending numerous baseball and soccer games, band concerts, high school plays, graduations and trips to the beach. After retiring Lynn and Vi designed and built their beautiful home in Salmon Creek. They enjoyed traveling abroad and went on several cruises with family and friends. There were many cherished moments of time spent on family vacations and celebrations together. Sadly after 56 years of marriage Lynn passed away in 2006 and only a few months later their youngest daughter, Tammi passed away unexpectedly. Although grieving her loss, her daughters encouraged her to attend dances at the Luepke Center. While there she made many wonderful friends, going to weekly dances, traveling with friends and enjoying celebrations.
There were so many things that brought joy into her life; she loved to watch the sunset and the moon rise, she loved watching the deer and their babies walk through her yard and she loved to dance. Most of all, she loved her family.
Vi is preceded in death by her parents, 6 siblings, her husband, Lynn and her youngest daughter, Tammi. Vi is survived by her daughters, Kris (Cliff) Mays, Jamie (Bill) Dotson; 4 grandchildren, Brandi Hafterson, Heather Jackson, Ty (Jane) and Kyle Dotson; 9 great grandchildren, Makayla, Cody, Liam, Aiden, Cooper, LillyAnn, Charlie, Nathan and Gabriel; 4 great-great grandchildren, Ophelia, Ezra, Nikki and Harper.
Vi always commented on what a wonderful life she had had. She made the best of her time well into her 90's continuing to dance, watching sunsets and being loved.
We miss you Nana.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
