Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jobe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. - Turtle Creek on Jan. 9, 2026.
Violet Glessner
Age 103, of Monroeville, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love, on Thursday, January 8, 2026. She finally decided she had done everything she wanted to do.
Violet was the beloved wife of the late David Glessner and a loving mother to David Glessner, Marcia Glessner, and Judy Melton. She is survived by her younger sister, Velma (late Pietro). Violet was preceded in death by her parents, Pietro and Ida (Molinaro) Moroso; her beloved grandson, Danny Albitz; and her siblings Faith (Tony) Bronzo, Dahlia (Paul) Blotzer, and Peter "Nini" Moroso. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who always took the time to stop by and say, "Hi, Aunt Vi."
A skilled homemaker with boundless energy, Violet was an accomplished seamstress who made dresses for herself, her daughters, and her sisters, as well as shirts for her favorite son, David. She even made a wedding dress for her niece, Peg. Violet also baked tens of thousands of cookies over her lifetime, generously sharing them with friends and family.
Although it may not have been on her bingo card, Violet was an excellent gardener's wife. Anything her husband grew, she canned or froze, making for delicious, home-cooked meals.
At age 40, Violet returned to school to become a nurse. She worked for 26 years at Magee Women's Hospital, retiring in 1986 to become a doting grandmother to Danny, whom she adored.
Violet volunteered with Meals on Wheels through Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Wilkins Township, first in the kitchen and later delivering meals. She also volunteered at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in McKeesport, where she loved being a pierogi pincher. The friendships she formed there meant the world to her, and she looked forward to those gatherings until her final days.
An avid reader of murder mystery novels, Violet also enjoyed traveling. She spent several winters in Florida and made multiple trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. One especially memorable summer, she and her daughter Marcia, along with friends, traveled by motor home from Pittsburgh to California and then north through Canada to Alaska.
Violet enjoyed her television shows, trips to the casino, shopping, and riding around the region by car. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
As her hospice nurse so perfectly said, Violet's cause of death should be listed as "terminal cuteness."
