Violet Dorothy Zitzow, daughter of Arthur and Kathryn (Greiff) Ziegler, was born on June 13, 1932, in Gorman Township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. She grew up on the family farm in Gorman Township, attended country school, and graduated from Perham High School in 1949. She was united in marriage to Ellsworth Zitzow on October 5, 1949, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, MN. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Larry and Janet.
Violet was employed at Bucholz Drug and later at Farm Credit Services. In 1972, they built their retirement home on the Otter Tail River where they both enjoyed country living and watching wildlife. She had a passion for sewing, cooking, baking, and gardening. The family enjoyed the many trips together. Violet was active in her church and served as a Stephen Minister, served on the board of the local food self, and enjoyed coffee time with friends, her card group, and the Red Hats.
Violet loved her family and will be missed by many. She is survived by her children Larry (Linda) of Grand Forks and Janet (Harold) of Perham; grandchildren Steve (Livia) Zitzow, Amy (Darrin) Werre, Becky (Kory) Anderson, Michael (Tracy) Overland, Christina Overland, and Nathan Overland; and great-grandchildren Lauren and Aiden Zitzow, Tristan and Bryar Werre, Abby and Kayla Anderson, Lexia, Aubri, and Zoey Overland, Nathanial Maynard, and Azaliah Overland. She is also survived by her sister Joan (Bob) Weis; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary Helen Zitzow, Lester and Cookie Zitzow, Dennis and Marilyn Zitzow, and Cindy Ziegler; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ellsworth; two infant children; her parents; brothers Alvin Ziegler and Paul Ziegler; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Donna Ziegler, Norman and Evelyn Ponto, and Marlin Zitzow.
On Thursday, May 30, 2024, Violet passed away in Perham Living. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 on Friday, June 7 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Perham. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
