Sunrise: October 30, 1928 Sunset: March 9, 2026
Virday Irene Brown, of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, transitioned on March 9, 2026, to be with the Lord at the remarkable age of 97 surrounded by her loving family in Bel Air, Maryland. She was born on October 30, 1928, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to Claude and Cordie Brown.
Virday attended Williamsport High School, where she built lifelong friendships. She worked for many years at Reliable Furniture Company and later at the Center for Independent Living.
A devoted woman of faith, Virday loved the Lord and was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Affectionately known as “Mother Virday”, she loved her church family deeply and often traveled with them out of town to worship and fellowship. She would not let anything get in the way of her attending weekly Bible study and found great joy and strength in her faith. She served her church family and the Lord through service to the choir, the usher board, the women’s ministry, and through many events and activities throughout the years.
Virday loved life and family. She was an enthusiastic football fan and could always be found cheering on her loved ones from the stands and the Kansas City Chiefs from her living room. She enjoyed staying active and would not allow her age to limit her even well into her nineties. Over the years, she faithfully attended her children’s and grandchildren’s concerts, band competitions, dance recitals, track meets, cheerleading competitions, football games, birthday parties, weddings, and graduations. Family gatherings were always brightened by her famous potato salad, deviled eggs, and iced tea, which everyone looked forward to.
Virday shared a wonderful life with her beloved husband, Albert Brown, with whom she built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. Albert preceded her in death, and together, their memory remains a lasting example of devotion and family unity.
Additionally, Virday was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Brown and Cordie Johnson Brown Tanner; her brothers Oliver Brown, Walter Brown, and William (Billy) Johnson; her sisters Shirley Gibson, Grabrella (Gay) Brown, and Georgia (Dodie) Brown; and her daughters Tonya Brown, Lucy Brown, Georgia Brown Williams, and Virday Jane Brown.
She is survived by her loving children Alverda (Allie) Louise Wollett (Vernon) of Liberty, PA; Shirley Brown Cottom of Williamsport, PA; Mary Ann Brown Walker of Bel Air, MD; and George (Tony) Anthony Brown (Tricia) of Williamsport, PA, Rosemary Brown Taylor (Michael) of Williamsport, PA, Cordie Brown Robinson (John) of Harrisburg, PA. She is also lovingly remembered by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Virday will be remembered for her love of God, family and fun. She was kind and generous, had unwavering faith, and was loved by everyone she met. Her life was a blessing, and her memory a treasure.
There will be a public viewing 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 525 Park Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701 where the Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Montousville, PA 17756.
