Virgie T. Upton

Virgie T. Upton, age 81, of Harris-Henrietta Road, Forest City, NC, died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at her residence. Virgie was born April 2, 1931 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Guy Willis Toney and Maggie Toney Gault. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1949 and a faithful and longtime member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church. She and her late her husbands were co-owners and operators of VJ's Restaurant. She also worked in textiles and as a seamstress. She was a homemaker who enjoyed painting, craftwork, gardening and especially taking care of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir, working in the church nursery, taking care of Senior Citizens and being involved in the BWU at the church. She was a vibrant and kind person to all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William L. Upton, Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Upton of the Chase Community; two sons, Boyce Upton of Sunshine and Blaine Upton and wife, Myra of Shiloh. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Amelia Upton and Maggie Upton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Floyd's Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Terry White and Reverend Robert Carnell officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
