Virgil Anderson Obituary

Virgil M. Anderson, age 91 of Princeton, MN, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025.

His memorial service will be Friday, November 14, at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, northwest of Princeton, and visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Barbara Peterson will officiate.

Virgil was born to Julius and Celia (Thronson) Anderson on April 24, 1934, in Princeton. He graduated in 1953 from Princeton High School and in 1960 from the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Virgil served his country honorably in the U.S. Army as a medic. He worked as an electrical engineer at Northern States Power, now known as Xcel Energy. He married Dorothy Sarvie on May 7, 1994, in Zimmerman.

Virgil was an active member of the community, serving on the Council of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Greenbush Township Board, and as sexton of the West Branch Cemetery. He was a longtime resident of Princeton and managed the farm that has been in the family for over a century. He was a member of the Sons of Norway and was proud of his Norwegian heritage, making several trips to Norway and other countries with family and friends.

Virgil was strong of mind, body, and spirit. He enjoyed reading, tinkering, woodworking, and gardening, especially growing asparagus. An avid sportsman, his passions included cross-country skiing, archery, frisbees, and racquetball. Young at heart, he elicited love and admiration for his quiet, cheerful, and playful character. Through marriage he embraced Dorothy's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as his own; he loved being their Papa.

Virgil is survived by his siblings, Kermit (Glenda) Anderson of Fort Worth, TX, Marilyn Patten of Princeton, Clarice Gustafson of Princeton, and Karen Rymer of Princeton; beloved nieces and nephews; step-children, Michelle (Stephen) Piechowski of Stillwater, Charles (Lisa) Munsterman of Blaine, and William (Rocio Martinez-Goff) Munsterman of Ojai, CA; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Dorothy, in 2024.
