Virgil James Lasiter passed away at Granby house in Granby, Missouri, on November 13, 2025, at the age of 80 years. Virgil was born on September 29, 1945, in Ozark, Missouri, to Ray Franklin and Julia Ann (Harris) Lasiter. He grew up in rural Missouri as a member of a large family where he always found a way to stand out from the pack. He was a free spirit, a gypsy, and rebel. At about the age of thirty, he hitchhiked from Southwest Missouri to the West Coast where he spent the next thirty years of his life moving from place to place, living mostly in Washington and Oregon. During that time, he married Kathy Lasiter, and she preceded him in death. Virgil was very artistic and enjoyed woodworking. If you gave him the tools he could make just about anything. He made several personalized signs that decorated his home. He also made furniture that he gave to family members. His artistic side came out in his love for music as well. He was quite an accomplished musician. Playing guitar, harmonica, keyboard, and had written many, many songs. He was an animal lover, especially dogs.

Virgil retired from the Teamster Union and moved back to Southwest Missouri. He was still causing trouble running over people with his electric wheelchair until he got it taken away. He chose to walk to his own beat and those that had the pleasure of knowing witnessed him doing it "my way". He continued to protest the norm his entire life, still sporting his signature green sunglasses inside at Granby House, right up until his passing.

Virgil is survived by his siblings: Lois Starnes of Springfield, Missouri, Charles Lasiter and wife Shirley of Granby, Missouri, Robert Lasiter and wife Edith of Marshfield, Missouri, Alma Coker and husband Billy of Ozark, Missouri, David Lasiter and wife Michel of Pierce City, Missouri, Mary Ann Rouse and husband Eugene of Granby, Missouri, and Cynthia Parsley and husband Roy of Ozark, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Julia Lasiter, his wife, Kathy, and siblings: Virginia Lasiter, Charlotte Lupton, and Phillip Lasiter.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 pm at Clark Funeral Home of Granby, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to Granby House in care of Clark Funeral Home PO Box 26 Granby, Missouri 64844.
