It is with heavy hearts that the family of Virgilio F. Makalalad, Jr. shares his passing on June 16, 2024, at the age of 56. Lovingly known by his closest friends and family as 'Jun' or 'Virgil', he was born on August 9, 1967 in Manila, Philippines. He is the youngest of six children and the only son to the late Virgilio Sr. and Monina Makalalad. In the early 1970's, he and his family migrated to San Francisco, where Virgil graduated from Westmoor High School in Daly City. He continued to reside in the Bay Area throughout his adulthood. Beginning at the young age of 26, he dedicated nine years of his life to being the primary caregiver to his mom and dad, who both battled serious health challenges. During this time, he also spent two decades as the store manager of Napa Auto Parts in Burlingame. Virgil was known for his caring and generous personality, his sarcastic wit, and his charm that could make anyone smile. He loved R&B music, was a Nascar enthusiast, and was an avid SF Giants and 49ers fan. Virgil is survived by his five older sisters: Virina, Marissa, Monina, Maristella, and Marjorie; his brothers-in-law: Brigido, Romel, and Melandro; his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and great-grandnieces. He will be remembered as the strongest, fiercely protective, warm, and funny brother and uncle. Now reunited with his parents, Virgilio Sr. and Monina Makalalad, and his aunt Clara Makalalad, his family uplifts his soul to rest and will continue to love and miss him forever.
A memorial vigil for Virgilio will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Fairfield Funeral Home, 1750 Pennsylvania Ave, Fairfield, CA. The rosary will begin at 5:00 PM, with words of remembrance to follow.
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM, a memorial mass will be held to honor Virgil at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2700 Dover Ave, Fairfield, CA.
Family, friends, and all those who knew Virgil are invited to pay their respects.
