Virginia “Virgie” Ayala, also lovingly known as “Grandma Birdie,” age 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Fillmore, California, surrounded by loved ones.

Virgie was born on September 16, 1941, in Oxnard, California and resided most of her life in Fillmore, California. She lived a life rooted in love, family, and laughter. For many years, she worked at Camarillo State Hospital, where she served faithfully until her retirement.

Virgie had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh that could light up any room and bring joy to everyone around her. She was a true lover of the outdoors, finding happiness in camping, being near the water, and making lasting memories with her family. One of her greatest joys was teaching her grandchildren how to float—simple moments filled with patience, laughter, and love. To many, she was affectionately known as “Grandma Birdie,” a name that perfectly reflected her warmth and gentle spirit.

Virgie is now reunited with her beloved parents, Cruz and Patricia Chavez; her loving sister, Jennie; her life partner, Kenny; and her loyal and cherished dog, Dino.

She is survived by her children, Julie and Robert Ayala; her granddaughters Jasmine, Valerie, Erica, and Adrienne Ayala; and her grandson Robert Jacob Ayala. She is also lovingly remembered by her great-grandsons Michael, Julian, Jaxson, and Sebastian; her great-granddaughters Jaslynne, Aliyah, Azula, Emilia, and Ayla; and her great-great-grandson Michael.

Virgie’s legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured, the love she shared, and the laughter she brought into every life she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

“Though she may be gone from our sight, her love and laughter will remain in our hearts forever.”
