Virginia Evans Obituary

Mrs. Virginia Jane Evans, beloved wife of David, entered into rest on Thursday morning, March 12, 2026, at her residence.

Friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Sunday, March 15, from 2:00 until 5:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 16, 2026, in the Belair Road Chapel of Platts Funeral Home. The Rev. James Andrews will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Virginia was born in Hicksville, Ohio, the only child of Allen and Lotus Elliott. She loved horses and was involved in harness racing competitions as a young woman. She was also active in the county fair, and in 2024, she received a standing ovation in front of her hometown, for the contributions she made to the fair during her time there. In the mid 1960’s, she met and married David Evans, the love of her life, and became a military wife. Their growing family traveled the world, moving between military installations. At each new base, she embraced the unique challenges of military life and created a loving home for her family.

Christmas was her favorite holiday, and her home in Evans became known as the “Christmas House”. She would start in September to get all the holiday decorations and displays up in time, and her home glowed with the comforting warmth of family traditions. In 2022, she and husband, David, were featured on a local news channel, highlighting their extensive Christmas Village. For her, Christmas was not just a holiday; it was a feeling of joy and wonder she carried in her heart all year long.

Virginia was a devoted fan of the NBA and rarely missed an opportunity to watch her favorite players take the court. Few things made her happier than cheering on basketball legends like LeBron James or Kevin Durant and discussing their greatest performances with fellow fans. During the season, she could be found watching her favorite teams, the LA Lakers and the Phoenix Suns.

She enjoyed music, especially the songs of Elvis Presley, and made multiple visits to Memphis and Graceland to celebrate his legacy. She was a faithful member of Evans Church of Christ and a former member of the Eastern Star. Even though she worked a variety of jobs through the years, from the International Harvester Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to clerical positions at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, her most important job was wife, mother and grandmother. She was dedicated to her family and served as an example to her family and friends, through her love and courage. In 1995, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She faced that battle with determination and grace and even after the recurrence of cancer in 2005, she still inspired the people around her unwavering spirit. She met every health challenge head on with a determined spirit that became an inspiration to others.

In addition to her husband, David, she is survived by her children, Kerwin Traxler, Tonya Rowland and David “Herk” Evans, Jr., her grandchildren, Hudson Rowland (Hannah), Lindsey Rowland, Maycee Wren (Shawn) and Kaitlyn Senasac (William), her great grandchildren, Hayes Rowland, Dawson Martin, Bailey Spires, Alaina Bell and Ansley Bell, her former daughter in law, Carrie Evans, and her beloved canine Companion, Gage. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Lotus Elliott, her son, Steven Allen Worsham, her aunt, Evelyn Counterman and her cousins, Lemar Keener, Demar Keener and Sharon Myers, and her son in law, John Rowland.

If so desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Evans Church of Christ, 515 Gibbs Road, Evans, Georgia, 30809.

Please leave condolences in the online guestbook.
