Virginia Johanna Gillespie of Montgomery passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. She was the daughter of Theodor and Sadie Reiss and was born on April 11, 1930 in Bronx, NY. She was the widow of Raymond Gillespie. Virginia was also predeceased by her older brother Theodore (Ted) Reiss.

She is survived by her son Randel Wasson and his wife Susanne, her daughter Brenda Sierra and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren including: Michael Sierra (Rebecca), David Sierra (Stephanie), Reese Wasson (Nicole), Garrett Wasson (Anna), Lilly, Alayna, Madelyn, Elijah and Evelyn Sierra, Graham, Eleanor and Meredith Hejduk and Colette, Everly and Brinley Wasson. She is also survived by her brother Howard Reiss and her cousin, Eleanor Uhl.

Virginia moved with her family to Montgomery from the Bronx when she was 11 years old. While growing up, she loved to ride her beloved horse Rex through the fields around Montgomery. She was often joined by her best friend, Betty Van Kleek. In later years, she and Betty travelled together extensively with Europe a favorite destination.

In addition to taking care of her family, Virginia worked for Norstar Bank in Montgomery for 25 years. She loved people and they loved her. She had a ready smile and a quick wit and always loved a good joke.

Virginia's family would like to recognize and extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Valley View Nursing Home for the wonderful care and attention they provided during her final years.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevared, Staten Island, New York, 10306.
