Virginia A. Halkias

Virginia A. Halkias of Rahway passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2025.

She was born on October 28, 1939, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Michael and Eileen Szymanski.

Virginia found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. Whether watching cowboy shows with her beloved husband or thoughtfully planning holiday gatherings, she truly lived for the moments shared with those she loved most. Nothing made her happier than family get-togethers, especially during Christmas, her favorite time of year. She deeply adored her eleven grandchildren and felt profoundly blessed to welcome her first great-grandchild this year. Virginia's love, warmth, and devotion will live on forever in our hearts.

She is survived by the love of her life, Nikolaos Halkias; her beloved children Lisa (Tony) Pesch, Elias Halkias, Anna (Frank) Vitoroulis, and Stamatina (Matt) Gomolka; her eleven cherished grandchildren Nicholas, Alexis, Matthew, Anthony, Victoria, Elias, Niko, Nikolaos, Kai, Leland, and Virginia; her great-grandson Fionn; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers Michael, Joseph, Richard, Thomas, and James.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Lehrer-Gibilisco Funeral Home located at 275 West Milton Avenue in Rahway, NJ. A funeral service will follow from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm, after which interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery & Arboretum in Westfield.
