Virginia (Jenny) Quay Baucom was born Feb 3, 1932, in Maypearl, Ellis County, Texas to Wirt Lafayette Baucom and Rilla Maye (Martin) Baucom. Her siblings were Vasco James Baucom (1924-2008), Emory Eugene Baucom (1928-1999), Mary Jane Baucom Chapman (1934-2010) and Herman Wirt Baucom, a two-day old infant.
The family lived in Italy, Texas in 1940. After her parents passed away in her youth, Jenny went to live with George and Jewell Grimmett on their farm in Hill County. She graduated from Milford high school where she was on the girls’ basketball team.
Jenny was living in Ft. Worth in 1950 and working as a telephone company operator when she met and married Benjamin Franklin Kellum Jr ( B.F.) on Jan. 11, 1950. They moved to Lubbock where B. F. attended Texas Tech University and received his degree in Journalism. She worked as a key punch operator for West Texas Gas Co. Douglas Wayne Kellum was born April 17, 1954, in Lubbock, TX. They moved to McAllen in 1958. Wesley Scott Kellum was born on February 14,1960 in McAllen, Texas. They moved to Houston in January 1963 where BF worked for the Associated Press and Jenny was a key punch operator. They moved from Houston to Red Oak in 1978. She became very interested in genealogy, organized and attended multiple family reunions, and put together a collection of ancestorial notebooks. BF passed away June 18, 1998, and is buried in the Maypearl Cemetery where Jenny will join him.
She is survived by her two sons, a granddaughter Karye Kellum Maine and her husband Bryan, two great grandsons Jaxon and Logan, and Wesley’s wife Sande.
