Virginia LAURENT Obituary
LAURENT, Virginia (Brayton) "Ginny" It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we share that our beloved mother and grandmother, Virginia "Ginny" Laurent of Wellesley Hills, MA, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
Born in Boston in 1936 to Bradford C. Brayton and Ruth Webb Brayton, Ginny spent her childhood in Falmouth and later in New Bedford, where she met the love of her life, Pierre. They married in 1958 and shared 63 wonderful years together until his passing in 2021.
Ginny followed her calling to nursing early on. She graduated from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in 1953, attended University of Massachusetts at Amherst and graduated from Simmons College with her B.S. in Nursing in 1960 and went on to receive her Masters in Public Health from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.
Throughout her long career, Ginny provided care for countless patients in numerous nursing roles. Her last nursing position, where she found her closest friends, was as a psychiatric nurse at the Cambridge Hospital psychiatric outpatient division, where her deep empathy and steady presence were felt by all who knew her. Family was at the center of Ginny's life.
She is survived by her children, Paul Laurent and wife, Lorna of Natick, MA and their children, Katherine, Alec and Elizabeth, Bradford Laurent of Framingham, MA and his daughter, Francesca Ober-Laurent, Nicole Kern and husband, Michael of Rockport, MA and their children, Patrick and Sean, Alexa O'Toole and husband, John of Wellesley, MA and their children, Jackson and Cameron. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Pierre Henri Laurent; their infant daughter, Amy Ruth; as well as her parents; her sister, Barbara Espey; and her brother, Bradford Clark Brayton.
Ginny lived her life with curiosity, creativity, and an open heart. She found great pleasure in her gardens, tending to her flowers with the same care she offered to the people around her. She loved her book clubs, women's groups, yoga classes, activities at the Wellesley Senior Center and in her retirement, she discovered her talents in all forms of art classes where you could find her creating beauty. Ginny cherished the many afternoons at the MFA, evenings at the Boston Symphony, quiet moments with Pierre, and their many adventures traveling the world together. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren who she cherished every moment she spent with them. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
