CLINTON-Virginia Mae Martin, 100, of rural Clinton, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the Waters of Lebanon.
Virginia was born on June 22, 1924, in Avon, Indiana, to the late Lovell Parsons and Marie Hayden Parsons. She graduated from Avon High School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Central Normal College in Danville, Indiana. A 33-year dedicated educator, Virginia made a lasting impact as a third-grade teacher at Avon Elementary and Ernie Pyle Elementary before retiring. Her love for teaching and her students was evident in every lesson she taught.
In July 1954, she married the love of her life, Howard S. Martin Jr. They shared 59 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on December 23, 2013.
Virginia is survived by her son, Scott (Lisa) Martin of Lizton, Indiana; her granddaughter, Anne (Mark)Bunch of Glasgow, Kentucky; and two cherished great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Linda Mae Martin, on May 20, 2014.
Virginia lived a life of service, love, and dedication to her family, friends, and community. She will be fondly remembered for her wisdom, kind heart, and the legacy she leaves behind in the lives she touched. She was a proud member of the Dana Home Ec Club, the Parke-Vermillion County Retired Teachers Organization, and the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1 at Bono Cemetery Chapel, Dana, with the Rev. Charlie Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Bono Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, January 31 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Gooch Funeral Home,112 W. Howard Street, Rockville.
