Virginia McAlexander, 97 years old was called by her Lord on January 16, 2025. She lived on the Walters Heritage Farm until she was 94 years, then for health reasons, moved to Mount Ayr Health Care Center Assisted Living and then to the nursing home.
Ginny as she was known by many people was born December 18, 1927, to Leland Walters and Helen Sherman Walters Meier. She graduated from Beaconsfield High School where she met the love of her life. Kenneth and Virginia were united in marriage on February 2, 1947, at the Beaconsfield United Methodist Church. They were married for 74 years until Kenny passed away in 2022. To this union 4 children were born Jerry, Larry, Shirley and Debbie.
Ginny was a devoted farm wife, mother, and grandmother. You could find her out helping Kenny in the fields, in her garden, or mowing her yard. She attended many activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her church was a very important part of her life. She has been a lifelong member of the Beaconsfield United Methodist Church. You would find her teaching Sunday School or Bible School, working in the kitchen when needed, as a choir member, and a lay leader. She attended Methodist Conferences as a delegate for many years. Until she moved to the Mount Ayr Health Care Center, she was an active member of the UMWF.
Virginia had a very special talent of being able to whistle like a songbird. Everyone who heard her was blessed.
When Debbie was old enough to join 4-H she became the leader of the Beacon Bomberettes. She also served on the Ringgold County 4-H Council.
When Kenny and Shirley were the only ones at home she started working at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center. She achieved her CNA certificate and worked there until she was 75 years old.
She is survived by son Larry (Cathy) McAlexander, Prairie du Sac, WI; daughter Debbie (Dan) Van Horn, Bloomfield, IA; and daughter-in-law Rose (Jerry) McAlexander, Beaconsfield, IA; grandchildren Jeff, Tim (Sarah), Pat (Melissa), and Andy (Beckey) McAlexander, Beaconsfield, IA, Jon (Sara) McAlexander, Urbandale, IA, Jason (Tami) McAlexander, Durham, NC, Jennifer (Christopher) Stephan, Prairie du Sac, WI, Chris (Jennifer) Jackson and Dustin (Suzanne) Van Horn, Bloomfield, IA.
