TARBORO, NC - Virginia Hines Pittman, born on July 2, 1929, in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, in Tarboro, North Carolina, at the age of 96. Her life was a testament to love, dedication, and independence, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Virginia dedicated many years of her professional life as an accountant for Halifax Electric Membership, where her meticulous work and steadfast commitment earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. However, it was her personal life that truly defined her legacy.
A devoted member of Enfield Baptist Church, Virginia shared her passion for teaching as a Children's Sunday School Teacher for many years, nurturing young minds with patience and kindness. Her love for children extended beyond the classroom, as she cherished every moment spent with her nieces, nephews, and their families, always finding joy in their presence.
Virginia's home was a reflection of her spirit-immaculate and welcoming, filled with the vibrant colors. In her younger days, she delighted in growing vegetables and flowers that she lovingly tended in her backyard garden, a testament to her self-reliance and industrious nature.
Her culinary skills were renowned among family and friends, and she relished the opportunity to host gatherings, particularly during Thanksgiving and Christmas. After each delicious meal, she would beam with satisfaction and declare, "Isn't it 'licious?," a phrase that will forever echo in the hearts of those who shared her table.
Virginia's compassion knew no bounds; she devoted herself to caring for her family, especially her mother and one of her sisters, with unwavering dedication. Her strength and independence served as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Preceded in death by her parents, Maggie Vidette Griffith Pittman and John Frederick Pittman, and her sisters, Shirley Mae Pittman, Dorothy Pittman Vaughan, and Sarah Pittman Shreve, Virginia leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly: her niece Christa Vaughan, niece Kim Espinoza, nephew Jamie Vaughan, and many great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service to celebrate Virginia's remarkable life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Sunnyside Cemetery, Hwy 158, Scotland Neck, North Carolina, with Rev. Craig Gaither officiating. The family will receive guests at the cemetery following the service.
Memorial donations may be made directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in honor of Virginia's enduring love for children or online by clicking here.
Though Virginia Hines Pittman has left this world, her spirit of warmth, grace, and independence will continue to inspire generations to come.
