Virginia Taylor, 82, passed peacefully after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by her family and close friends. She was kind, thoughtful, and, as anyone who knew her could tell you, brutally honest. She will be greatly missed and always remembered for the many lives that she touched.

A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.

Virginia was born in Moultrie, GA, on January 11, 1942. Before college, she was a majorette and band member at Moultrie High School. She married into a military family and was very proud of all her travels around the world. Her experiences in different countries helped define her character. She was a loving niece to Dorothy Weaver and a sister to the late Gene Murphy, who was her hero; she loved and adored his wife Judy and their three children, Scott, Joy, and Dorey. As a young single mother to Kim and Jay, she sacrificed relentlessly, always making sure her children had everything they not only needed but also wanted, a selfless soul and loved by all. Virginia was in the automotive field for over forty wonderful years. She enjoyed telling stories, helping people, and spending time with her loving family. She lived a beautiful life. A discerning woman of exquisite taste, she provided comfort and solace while asking for nothing in return. She taught both of her children integrity, loyalty, and compassion. Instilling them with the confidence necessary to pursue life to the fullest with passion and vigor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Estes Murphy and Leola Fletcher Murphy; and by her husband, William Boyd.

She is survived by her daughter Kim Baxter and husband Bobby of Moultrie, GA; son Jay Taylor and wife Olivia of Tifton, GA; three grandchildren, Taylor Mix and wife Rachael of Tampa, FL, Corey Mix and Wife Marley of Nashville, TN, and Jessie Felts and husband Jacob of Adel, GA; and six great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Mattison, Karson, Palmer, Piper, and Keaton Mix.

The family would like to thank all the family and friends for their support and prayers. They would also like to thank all her doctors and Colquitt Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care.

Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon at the end of the ocean. Virginia’s love is written in our hearts and forever it will stay.
