Virginia Nancy West

Virginia Nancy West (Ginny) passed away at the age of 97 on Tuesday, March 11,2025 in Sarasota, Florida. Ginny was born on February 23, 1928, and was the only child of Ann and Harry Lorenz. She met the love of her life, Douglas West, at Carlton College and married as a college student. They were married for 75 years.
Ginny and Doug led a full life together, raising their children, traveling, playing golf and sharing time with close friends. Ginny served on many volunteer boards and dedicated much of her time to LaRabida Children's Hospital in Chicago. They made Longboat Key, Florida their permanent home in later years, being active playing tennis and golf, and enjoying a full social life. Ginny always had a warm smile and loved being with family and friends.
She is survived by her 2 children, Bill West and Barb West Stone and husband Steven Stone. Ginny's family also includes 5 grandchildren and their spouses, and 8 great grandchildren. Ginny leaves behind many very loved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sarasota Orchestra, made in Ginny's memory, as she loved attending the symphony.
A memorial service will be held at All Angel's by the Sea Episcopal Church located at 563 Bay Isles Road, Longboat Key, on Saturday, May 24th, at 10:00 a.m.
