Virginia Wilkerson Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Jan. 27 to Feb. 1, 2009.
WILKERSON, Virginia "Jennie," 98, of Richmond, Va., died January 26, 2009 at Henrico Doctors' Hospital (Parham). She was born June 3, 1910, in Richmond, Va., the eldest and only daughter of five siblings born to Willie and Pinkie Lipscomb. She attended the public schools in Richmond. Virginia married the late Willard Wilkerson in Richmond, Va., relocating shortly thereafter to Harlem, New York City, where together they raised four children, Eddie Wilkerson, Arlene Wilkerson (deceased), Evelyn Carter (deceased) and Doris Brooks. Virginia's joy over the years centered around her family. She eventually returned home to Richmond, Va., where she lived her twilight years. Virginia leaves to cherish her memory her son, Eddie Wilkerson; daughter, Doris Brooks; daughter-in-law, Rose Wilkerson; two sons-in-law, Edward Brooks and John Carter; eight grandchildren including the most special, Kim Coley; a host of great and great-great-grandchildren, and a large extended family of sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. We celebrate the life of Virginia "Jennie" Wilkerson. She will always have a special place in our hearts.
