Virlyn Wilson Burse

Virlyn Burse was a true gentleman, a respected scientist, a beloved manager, and my great friend. We met in 1979 in CDC Chamblee and shared a hallway and nearby offices. We became close friends and at times worked on the same project. Virlyn was an expert in analytical chemistry of chlorinated hydrocarbons. In late 1990s I left this job and moved to the safety office. When I retired, Virlyn immediately recruited me to work at Battelle Memorial Institute. We worked closely together providing scientists to CDC. I left Battelle in 2017, but Virlyn and I kept in touch, and we went to lunch (with my wife Carol) about once a month. Virlyn's favorite restaurant was Crawfish Shack on Buford Hwy. I miss Virlyn. He was a close friend and just a good soul. I loved Virlyn and I will always remember the good times with him. I thank God for sharing Virlyn with us. I attached a picture with Dayton Miller (left), Virlyn, Bob (right).

Virlyn was a chemist whose presence brought magic and warmth to every room.
With a winning smile and a welcoming glance, Virlyn showed genuine care for everyone,
Always willing to go the extra mile to support and uplift those around him.
Even when challenges arose, Virlyn remained steadfast in people´s belief and the goodness in them.
Offering encouragement and a helping hand whenever needed.
As a true leader, mentor, and friend, Virlyn touched our lives through service, guidance, and praise.
He was like a father to some of us. His goodwill and joy inspired all of us, and his meaningful life left an indelible mark on many.
Though our journey together has come to an end, we will always cherish laughter, support, and happiness Virlyn brought into our lives.
I send my deepest sympathy to your loved ones. May the love and support of others bring your family some comfort through these hard days.
