Vivian's legacy and gifts will stay with us forever. She and Frank were good friends to my parents, but she always engaged us children with her typical irreverance. She was a kind, giving person who also had an inner strength that was amazing. Learning more about her has also been a gift. She was quite a person.

To the Jensen family,

I first met Vi (that's what I always called her)about 25 years ago. I was a student at MSU and we both worked for a non-profit called the Heart Health Program. She was such a joy to work with. Our job was to recruit people to participate in the Heart Health program. Vi and I were always competing to see who could sign up the most people during our shift. Along the way we played some pranks and had lots of laughs. There is no doubt, that she was the energy of the program. I eventually left MSU, but Vi always tracked me down no matter where I landed. I told her that we needed to hire her, becuase she was such a persistent investigator(for the record, I'm an FBI agent).
I always enjoyed receiving her beautiful Christmas cards and her surprise telephone calls to the FBI office. Vi was one of those people in your life who really made a difference. I was somewhat shy, Vi was not. She was the one who always encouraged me to let people see who I am. She yanked me out of my shell and helped me set a course for a sucessful life. Memories of Vi will always be with me and I know that she provided all of you with memories to last a lifetime. I'm blessed to have known Vi and I hope that your sorrow will turn to happiness as you recall what a special life she lived.

God Bless You All.

To all the Girls and their families,
My deepest sympathy to everyone in the loss of your mother. Whenever I think of Vivian,I smile as her humor and wit were her charm. She always had a joke or a story. She made us laugh. And Oh how she loved her family and was so proud of you all. On October 11th my parents- Dick and Gloria Roehrich and I had a chance to drive to Mankato to visit. We shared a lunch with Vivian that she made in her home -Lasagna- and caught up on old times. Those are times we will always cherish as our last vist together. She was a wonderul lady and we will miss her dearly.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.
Love and hugs,

I am sorry that I can't be at the funeral due to being on a trip and not getting back to Florida until too late. So many memories of your mother......back to when she and your father were first married and we gathered for family reunions at Maude and Frank's in Brainerd. She was a brave woman, and always amused us with her great sense of humor. My thoughts are with all of you at this time of loss.

Roberta and family,
Although I never really knew your mother, I do know what a wonderful person her daughter is and this doesn't happen by accident. When reading about Vivian's life, I thought that it was a perfect description of a life well-lived, caring for those she loved, working to make the world a better place for others, and enjoying what makes life beautiful. You were lucky to have such a gift as your mother. Wishing you strength and love during this difficult time.

To Vivian's family - You have my deepest sympathy. She was such a wonderful person - a woman of extraordinary courage and integrity and with an incredibly funny sense of humor as well.
One of my favorite stories about Vivian is my mother's story of how they first met. They were both around 13 at the time, and mom remembers coming around the corner of the school building to find a crowd of kids gathered around 2 girls rolling in the dirt, fighting for all they were worth. Of course, Vivian was one of them and the other, as Vivian always made sure to point out, was a 15 year old girl, the biggest bully in the school. This other girl had been picking on a younger child, one who couldn't fight back, and your mom had finally had enough. She spoke up, the girl hit her and they were off and fighting. Mom said she was so intrigued by Vivian's gutsiness that she made up her mind right then and there to get to know this fascinating girl!
Mom considered Vivian her closest and dearest friend. I could always tell when they were talking on the phone because mom would be laughing and so animated, it was obvious she was talking to someone she adored. Later, I would be regaled with their latest discussion, mom laughing again at what might not have been very funny to others but which the two of them always managed to find extremely entertaining.
Another favorite story is of one of Vivian's gifts to my aunt, Kay Johnson, who was in her 60's and graduating from Luther Seminary. Viv gave her a big bottle of Prune Juice, with a note taped to it saying: 'You Go, Girl!'
I have so many fond memories of your mom. Hearing about Vivian is like losing my mother again, they're so closely linked in my mind.
