Our beloved mother Vivian Newberry Larson peacefully passed away on December 26, 2024. Preceded in death are her husbands, Don Larson (2012) and Darrell Newberry (1986), her dear granddaughter, Ariana Hatami (2016) and daughter-in-law, Laura Reimer Newberry (2019). Vivian is survived by her daughter, Julie Newberry Hatami (Farzin) of Redwood City, CA and son, Michael Newberry (Laura) of Harpers Ferry, IA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Yasamin Hatami and Reza Hatami for whom she cherished in life.
Vivian was born in Wilmar, MN and left this small town in 1956; arrived in Rochester, MN with not more than a little suitcase. Once she landed a job as a teller at the First National Bank (currently US bank), Vivian was on her way to establish a career there over many years. Viv was an avid reader and a league bowler in the 70s-80s for Hunts Drug and won 2 championships.
She and Darrell enjoyed 27 years of marriage filled with love, traveling to the many lakes MN is known for; just boating, fishing, swimming and waterskiing with her siblings and extended family was enough. The Starkson family are a gregarious, fun bunch and lived up to the phrase: Live, Laugh, Love - Vivian was never more happy than when she was with them and her own little family.
Later in life she met her 2nd husband Don and they did their own traveling to Texas, Arizona and California. They even were a part of history in 2001 when in Washington DC they witnessed the pentagon fall on 9/11. In the years following, this quiet, devoted man took care of "Vivie" when she got ill.
Thus, Vivian had a full, blessed life; she believed in Christ our Lord and Savior and wore a smile all the way to the end. She was happy that she met her goal by reaching Christmas and then our Heavenly Father called her home.
A memorial service for Vivian will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Bethel Lutheran Church (810 3rd Ave SE, Rochester, MN 55904). Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
