Vivian Virginia Mercer Bauer, 89, of
Pace, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, January 28, 2024.
Vivian was born in 1934 in
Calera, Alabama to the late Jesse and Clifford Mercer and was the youngest of ten children. She was a graduate of Woodlawn High School. Vivian worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama for a short time before she met the love of her life, Daniel Bauer, in
Gulf Shores, Alabama. They were married shortly after in 1954. Together they raised their three daughters while traveling the world. Daniel's profession allowed them to journey to Germany, Austria, Greece, and eventually to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where they resided for two years. Ultimately, they settled in Pine Mountain, Georgia, where Daniel retired. Their home in Pine Mountain is where they spent many years together enjoying retirement and providing the most magical memories for their three grandchildren.
Viv was most proud of her role as Grammie to her three grands - Michelle, Lindsay, and Zachary. She made it to school events, birthday parties, recitals, and ball tournaments up and down the east coast. She was the kind of grandmother that would play school or Skip Bo with you for hours and haul you to Callaway Gardens or the Wild Animal Safari no matter how hot it was. She'd sing you to sleep, share her Big Red gum, scratch your back, and would be the first person to purchase a candle or wrapping paper in your ridiculous school fundraiser, no matter how ugly it was.
In 2008 Daniel and Vivian moved to
Pace, Florida to be closer to their family as they grew older in age.
Vivian is preceded in death by her parents; many of her siblings; her granddaughter, Crimson Elaina Hill; and her beloved husband of 58 years, Daniel Edward Bauer, who passed in 2012.
She is survived by her three daughters, Laura McConatha (Barry), Fran Bauer (Jon), and Pat Hill (Mark); her three grandchildren, Michelle Ramsden (Justin), Lindsay Godwin (Blake), and Zachary Hill (Jordan); and her three great granddaughters, Miller, Lainey Jo Godwin, and Freya Bell.
Vivian will be honored with a private service for her immediate family and will be buried with Daniel at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.
The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers that made such an impact on her life and in the lives of her family over the last ten years. Special thanks to Sarah Miller, Alice Broderick, Hailie O'Connell, Chloe Vettel, Jamie Norwood, Tevin Esguerra, Garrett Wells, Peyton Leek, Kayla Johnson, Carissa Williams, Noelle Lewis, Nerrissa Dunn and Alexis Major. They'd also like to extend their appreciation to Covenant Hospice, most especially Chasity Peavy and Annette Coxwell.
Vivian was a powerful woman who lived a very full life. She was wise, witty, thoughtful, silly, patient, and caring. Her loyalty was unconditional and unwavering. She will be deeply missed and forever loved. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is finally resting in peace.
