Vivian Schluntz Obituary

Vivian Darlene Schluntz

July 25, 1933 - August 26, 2025

Vivian Darlene Schluntz passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, in Beaver City, Neb. after a short battle with cancer. Vivian was born to Ervin and Laura (Dunn) Marble on July 25, 1933, in the family home south of Stamford, Neb.

Vivian spent her early years on the family farm until they moved to Fort Collins, Colo. Vivian cherished those years growing up in Colorado and it always held a special place in her heart. Trolley rides, family gatherings and rides in the mountains were memories she spoke of. Due to her mother's failing health, the family returned to Stamford in 1946 where Vivian then graduated from Stamford High School in 1951. It was at a high school basketball game that she met the love of her life, Clinton. They were married July 24,1952 at the Presbyterian Church in Stamford, Neb.

Clinton and Vivian made their home on the family farm in Hollinger, Neb., where they lived for the past 73 years. To this union, three children were born, Linda Sue, Ricky Jay and Roxane Kay.

Viv, as she was affectionately known, was a homemaker and faithful servant of the Lord. Her journey on this earth was marked by her hospitality, great cooking, and service to others. Family get-togethers for holidays and any celebrations delighted her and she always made sure there was cake. Vivian found joy in preparing meals and finding loving gifts to celebrate seasons, birthdays, and anniversaries. Her homemade pizza, baked beans, pink angel food cake, pies and banana bread were family favorites. She had a knack for mailing the perfect card. Friends and family from far and near cherish the memories of her fall wiener roasts. She always made sure the farm was beautifully decorated, and the food was always a meal to remember. In addition, her green thumb made the farm a memorable place to visit; her zinnias were especially remarkable.

She was a longtime member of the Hollinger United Methodist Church up until its closing in 2023, where she served the church in so many ways, keeping the church clean, organizing special events and preparing numerous meals and desserts over the years. Her welcoming spirit brought joy to many. She especially enjoyed studying the Bible. Vivian joyfully joined the Faith Community Church in Beaver City in 2023, where she especially loved the teaching and fellowship.

In addition to her service through church, Vivian volunteered in many community organizations over the years. She and Clint spent countless hours and many anniversaries serving at the Furnas County Fair.

She took an active role in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were always welcome to come stay at the farm, where so many memories were created. She took joy in teaching them how to cook. Together, Clinton and Vivian attended many sporting events, graduations and really any event that they participated in, even traveling to Colorado last winter to attend a basketball game.

Her passing has left a void in the hearts of family and friends and many others whose lives were touched by her. Vivian is survived by her husband, Clinton, of 73 years; and her children, Rick Schluntz of Beaver City and Roxie (Mike) Vaughn of Oxford; and son-in-law, Chuck Sturgis of Holdrege. Forever cherished and remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bobbi (Sean) Kennedy, Kaden and Koen, Bryce (Chelsey) Bishop, Brydon and Bryndilynn and Karissa (Chase) Crawford, Cali, Jed, Canon and Jay, along with numerous step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and special nieces and nephews.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Verlyn and Arlyn Marble; daughter, Linda Sturgis, on August 26, 2011; grandson, Brandon Bishop; and step-granddaughter, Kim Phelps, both in 2006.

Although Vivian's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us.

Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, August 29, 2025, from 5 till 7 p.m. at Garey Funeral Home, Beaver City, Neb. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Faith Community Church, Beaver City, Neb. with Pastor Daryl Kats, officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Hollinger, Neb.
