Vyeka Young

Vyeka Blažekovic Young was called home by our Lord on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at the age of 91. She joined her husband John and her mother, Ana.
Vicky was born in Zagreb, Yugoslavia (now Croatia) on June 7, 1934 to Ana Klaric Blažekovic and Franjo Blažekovic. As a child, she was trained in ballet and enjoyed performing as a ballerina. She attended the University of Heidelberg in Germany before coming to the United States in her early twenties. She attended nursing school in Galveston, TX. She worked as a nurse at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, where she met her husband, John Young.
She moved to Kansas City in 1970, where she lived for 32 years. She was heavily involved in the community, serving as President of the Kansas City Ballet Guild and of the local chapter of American Croatian Relief. She was involved in the Medical Missions Foundation, Croatian Council of Kansas City, and published a cookbook. She started the 'Celebrate the Children' organization in the 1990s to help children who were injured during the civil war in Croatia. She visited Croatian hospitals, arranged travel to America, and coordinated with doctors and nurses across Kansas City to house and perform surgeries on wounded children. She remained in touch with some of those children throughout her life.
She later moved to Houston, TX where she worked as a real estate agent. Following her husband's death in 2014, she moved to Round Rock to be closer to her family. She was active in various bridge groups and attended First United Methodist Church of Round Rock. She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing bridge, and spending time with her grandchildren. She passed away from pancreatic cancer, and entered into the arms of the Lord while surrounded by her loved ones. Vicky Young is survived by her son, Christopher Young and, Ann Wallace; stepson and daughter-in-law, Mark & Allison Young; grandsons, Evan, Cade, Spencer, & Preston; great grandkids, Walker and Sloan; sisters and their spouses, Nana & Martin Tworke, Maja & Pedro Osana; and her nieces and nephews, Carmelo & Ana Blazekovic, and Lara Roman. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, January 9, at Beck Funeral Home, 1700 East Whitestone Blvd, Cedar Park, TX 78613. Burial service will be held immediately afterwards at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery, 330 Berry Lane, Georgetown, TX 78626.
Vicky will be remembered for her strength, her dedication to family, and the way she cared for those around her. She never hesitated to put the needs of others before her own and cared deeply for the people in her life. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those she cared for and all who loved her.
