Ashford – Vytautas Alksninis, age 93, died on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Matulaitis Nursing Home, Putnam, Ct.
He was born in Šakiai, Lithuania on March 23, 1930, son of the late Vaclovas and Gabrielle (Kaunaite) Alksninis. He leaves his wife, Irena (Pesyte) Alksninis of Ashford, his daughters, Lina Anužis and her husband Saulius of Washington, D.C., Rasa Mokhoff and her husband Nicolas of Sea Cliff, NY, Sigita Alksninis of Oberaegeri, Switzerland; grandchildren, Matas (Vaiva), Tadas (Kelsey), Vytis, Marius (Beatriz), Kira, Max, Kajus and Vejas; great-grandchildren, Sigita, Karina, Ignas and Augustas; a brother, Algirdas Alksninis and his wife Dana; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Vytautas immigrated to the United States from Lithuania during WWII as a teenager. He was a United States Army combat veteran having served in the Korean War. He studied Electrical Engineering and worked at Ebasco in New York City for 30 years. His love for his homeland never waned. He worked tirelessly fighting from outside the borders for his fatherland's freedom. His decades of efforts were recognized by the President of Lithuania who awarded him with the Medal of Merit for Lithuania.
Funeral Services for Vytautas will be private.
