Wade Guttormson, 71, Sawyer, ND, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck.
Wade Glen Guttormson was born on October 6, 1954, to Leonard and Alice (Raszler) Guttormson in Minot. He grew up in the rural Des Lacs area, where he had a wonderful childhood surrounded by great neighborhood friends. He was baptized, confirmed, and attended Rose Valley Lutheran Church.
On February 8, 1975, Wade married the fire to his ice, Connie (Buechler), after the two met while working at Minot Livestock Auction. They made their home in Karlsruhe, ND, in 1976; a time they often remembered as some of their very best years. They loved their community and the lifelong friendships they built there. The neighbors would often call to check on Wade and Connie because their cattle were on the wolfy side, keeping everyone on their toes. Those years in Karlsruhe were filled with laughter, hard work, and many cherished memories that stayed close to their hearts for a lifetime.
Wade was a cowboy to the core. He loved everything about cattle, ranching, and roping. After getting married, he and Connie decided to learn to team rope, spending countless hours in the arena and making lifelong friendships. That love for horses, ranching, and rodeo carried through to Jamie and Brandi, who grew up right alongside them in the Western way of life.
In 1994, Wade and Connie moved to rural Sawyer. The very first thing built, even before moving a house onto the place, was the arena. Many evenings were spent roping, laughing along with a few stern words from time to time. Wade spent countless hours on the ranch with his family, teaching his kids how to ranch, run equipment, and ride.
Wade worked many outside jobs over the years to help support his true passion- ranching. Whether he was working long hours or coming home covered in dust, he did it with purpose, so his family could live the ranching life he loved.
Wade spent many years competing alongside his kids in the arena, sharing his love for roping and rodeo with them. In his later years, he proudly took to the stands, supporting them with the same passion and pride. Whether they were winning buckles or just having fun, Wade was always there, steady, supportive, and beaming with pride. One of his greatest joys later in life was watching his son carry on the ranching life by his side, and admiring his daughter for her independence, the family she built, and all her accomplishments in the arena. Not only did he support his own kids, he also supported anyone who needed a helping hand. Wade was always willing to take the time to explain, teach, and encourage others, sharing his knowledge and experience generously.
Wade loved his grandkids fiercely. They were his pride and joy. He loved being a grandpa and cherished every moment he spent with them. His grandkids brought out his biggest smiles, and he loved them more than anything.
Wade was known as a cat with nine lives. Over the years, he faced many health challenges; each one met with the same quiet strength and determination that defined him. No matter what was thrown his way, Wade never lost his spirit, his humor, or his will to keep going.
Wade was always willing to lend a hand, offer a story, or share a laugh. He even sacrificed a finger once to help his son win a rodeo in Max - a story that perfectly captured his dedication to his family. Wade will be remembered for his big heart, bigger smile, and the way he made everyone around him feel like family. Above all, Wade's greatest joy was his family, and the love, laughter, and lessons he shared with them will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
His loving family includes: wife of 50 years, Connie; children, Jamie (Amy) Guttormson, Brandi (Eric) White; grandchildren, Cee Cee, Cooper, and Colton Guttormson, Renn White; brothers, Dean (Dustie) Guttormson, Joel (Lila Braun) Guttormson; sisters, Faye (Pete) Kaliher, Myra (Sam) Hettich; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lynn Guttormson and Paul Guttormson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ruben and Arlene Buechler.
