Wade Hicks Obituary

Nampa - Wade Le Roy Hicks, 96, of Nampa, Idaho, was born on September 13, 1929 along with his twin brother, Wayne Lee Hicks in Denver, Colorado. His father, Floyd Marvel Hicks was born in Evans, Colorado. His mother, Violet Avo Adkins was born in Hastings, Iowa.

When Wade was a small child, the Hicks family had a farm north of Loveland, Colorado, and a homestead in Wyoming. Floyd Hicks acquired 480 acres in 1930 through the homestead act. They drove forth and back.

They attended Loveland Nazarene Church, where Wade met Wenona Anderson. They graduated from Loveland High School in 1947, and married in 1948. They were inseparable, doing everything together including farming their own 320 acres in Wyoming, and property in the Loveland-Ft. Collins-area. They raised 4 children. Beth Coonts of Houston, Texas, Marlin Hicks, Ann Carl, and Evan Hicks, all of Nampa.

Wade worked doing finish carpentry and hip roofs and everything involved in building a custom home for a very particular boss. He learned to always do good work, and to finish your job.

In 1970, they moved to Nampa, Idaho, to be closer to NNU. Wade worked for Land Mark Homes, but decided to go out on his own. He built many homes in the Nampa area. During that process, he was not happy with the cabinets available at that time. So, they bought a warehouse on 1st St. (Wenona's idea) and remodeled it to have 6 individual cabinet shops. He taught many people how to build cabinets. Wade was a hard worker and could do just about anything, and was very dependable.

In 1985, he and Wenona moved to Alaska. First, to the small village of Kake, and then in 1991, to Valdez to help raise a house so that the living quarters were above the snow. While in Alaska, they were very involved in the Nazarene Church. Wade also built cabinets, remodeled houses, and worked at Prince William Sound College during their nearly 20 years in Alaska. He loved to catch a big salmon or halibut and would go fishing any time he could.

Wade cared for Wenona after she had her stroke in Alaska. He continued to work while being a wonderful care-giver to Wenona. Wade was a fixer, teacher and giver. He was always willing to help with transportation to appointments or church. He loved helping people in any way he thought was needed. Everyone loved Wade's sense of humor, his smile and his wonderful attitude. Regardless of where he went, everyone was glad to see him. Above all, Wade loved Jesus. He could quote scripture verses and had a great memory. He loved going to Sunday school and church. He loved his family and prayed for them by name every night. He had numerous grandchildren, and great grand children.

Wade worked until he was 92, and although he still wanted to build cabinets or do some farming, his health forced him to retire. Wade enjoyed making Carem boards and playing the game of Carem, and taught many how to play.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, Wenona, brothers Wayne of Berthoud, Colorado, Don of Nampa, Stanley of Briggsdale, Colorado, and 3 nieces.

Wade's funeral will be held October 11, at 3:00 PM, at College Church of the Nazarene. Viewing begins at 1:30 PM. A Graveside service will be October 13, 10:00 AM, Kohler Lawn Cemetery. Wade's favorite organizations are Love Inc.TV.org, CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ) give.cru.org/0578869, and the Days of Praise, Institute for Creation Research, PO Box 59029, Dallas, TX 75229.
