Wade Raines Obituary

Wade Ashley Raines passed away peacefully and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, November 23, at Bailey Manor in Cookeville, Tennessee, at the age of 78.

He was born on February 16, 1947, to Quincy W. and Charlyne Ashley Raines, in Memphis, Tennessee.

He was a devoted husband to his wife, Anita "Joyce" McBride Raines, who was born on the same day and in the same hospital as Wade. From the time of their earliest memories, they knew each other and then grew up together in the same church. They were married on February 16, 1996, which was a date that was memorable for each of them.

After Wade graduated from college with a degree in Engineering, he started his first job with the Dupont Company in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A few years later, he began working at the United States Postal Service, where he worked for more than 30 years. During that time, he worked in Tennessee, Oklahoma, and then was transferred to Washington, D.C., where he was involved in numerous innovative projects.

After Wade retired, he moved to Cookeville, Tennessee, where he became an active member at First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and was instrumental in the development of a tracking system for the Operation Christmas Child Collection Center.

Wade will be greatly missed as a wonderful Christian man who was always willing to serve and help wherever he could and who could always make one laugh with his wonderful sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Quincy and Charlyne Raines of Memphis, and his wife Joyce McBride Raines of Cookeville.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Albert McBride of Memphis, and Albert's sons, Kevin McBride of Millington, Charles (Tammy) McBride of Millington, and John (Macie) McBride of Yellville, Arkansas, and Albert's niece, Deanne Fuller of Farley, Iowa.

A special thank you to all those at Bailey Manor of Cookeville and Hospice of Tennessee who gave Wade such kind and compassionate care.

A graveside service will be held at the Memphis Memory Gardens on Wednesday, December 10, at 10:00 a.m., in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Billy Skinner will be officiating the service.
