Hanson-Runsvold Funeral HomeIt is with extremely heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Waha Nahum Sem, of Fargo, North Dakota, who passed away January 28, 2026 at the age of 31. This loss has shaken our family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Though his time on this earth was far too short, Waha's life was filled with purpose, love, and impact. His presence shaped the lives of many, and his legacy will continue to live on through the family, friends, and community who loved him deeply.
Born on January 1, 1995, in Sudan Africa, Waha began his life grounded in family, resilience, and hope. In 1999, he immigrated to the United States with his parents and brother, carrying with him dreams built on courage and determination. Fargo became his home, a place where he grew, learned, and built a life defined not only by accomplishment, but by character.
Waha attended Madison Elementary School, Ben Franklin Middle School, and Fargo North High School. During his time at Fargo North, he became a true North High legend. He was known for his exceptional talent on the track and for the discipline and dedication he brought to his training and competition. His athletic ability earned admiration, but it was who he was off the track that left the deepest impact. Waha carried himself with humility, kindness, and genuine care for others. His bright smile and calm presence had a way of making people feel welcome, respected, and valued.
Waha was a brother, a son, a dad, a friend, and a light to so many. He was deeply loved because he truly had a heart for people. He was supportive, encouraging, and always pushing those around him to reach their full potential. If you were his friend, Waha believed in you, sometimes even more than you believed in yourself. He inspired others through his strength, his work ethic, and his determination, both on and off the field.
After high school, Waha continued his education by attending college for one year in Boise, Idaho. This experience reflected his desire to keep growing, learning, and expanding his path forward.
Alongside his education and athletics, Waha built an impressive and meaningful career. For more than twelve years, he worked at Roadway Services as a supervisor and foreman. In this role, he was known for his strong work ethic, leadership, and commitment to safety and excellence. He led with integrity, earning the respect and trust of those who worked alongside him. Waha took pride in his work, always approaching his responsibilities with seriousness and care.
Above all else, Waha cherished his family. He is survived by his loving parents, Yala Yakub and Nahum Beje, his seven siblings, Mariah (9), Matthew (18), Jeremiah (20), Peter (22), Jennie (24), Mary (25), and Siman (27) and daughter Naomi whom he deeply loved. His love, guidance and presence will be sorely missed by his family.
Waha will be remembered for his kind soul, his bright and genuine smile, and the quiet strength he carried throughout his life. He lived with humility, compassion, and purpose, touching others in ways that will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the work he did, and the love he shared so freely.
Though he is no longer with us, Waha Nahum Sem will be forever remembered, deeply loved, and never forgotten.
