Waitis "Lucky" Rogers, III, age 73, of Bloomfield, passed away early Saturday morning, November 22, 2025, at University Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Vincennes on November 5, 1952, the son of Waitis Rogers, II and Annalee (Halter) Rogers.
Lucky was a 1970 graduate of Worthington-Jefferson High School. He was a Vietnam War veteran with the United States Navy where he was a gunner on a helicopter and a gunner on a riverboat. During his service in the Navy, he became a "shellback" on July 8, 1973, when he crossed the equator. Following the Navy, he immediately entered the United States Air Force. He was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas, where he met the love of his life, Kathleen. They were married 39 years until her death on January 31, 2019. He graduated from Ivy Tech with an associate degree in electronic technology. He retired from NSWC Crane as an electronic technician in 2008.
Throughout his children's youth, he spent many years as a Boy Scout Leader. Lucky loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing the boundary waters in Minnesota, canoeing, and traveling with his wife and family visiting many state and national parks. Eventually they drove through all 50 states. Every year he enjoyed working at the Greene County Tree Farm, helping others load their special Christmas tree. One of his greatest accomplishments was hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2008....lasting 174 days with only 12 days rest.
He is survived by his four children, Waitis "Lee" (Rebekah Taylor) Rogers, IV, Jeffrey (Jessica) Rogers, Wendi Rogers, and Jerrica (Christopher) Klinger; grandchildren, Jaden Arthurs, Isabella Rogers, Logan Rogers, Ainsley Klinger, and Eleanor Rogers; a brother, John Rogers; and a sister, Nancy (Dan) Weaver.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen D. (Ash) Rogers; and a brother, George Rogers.
A memorial service to honor Lucky's life will be held at Antioch Christian Church in Bloomfield at 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 7, 2025, with Jack Tolbert officiating. Visitation will began at 2:00 PM until the time of service.
