Wallace Gayle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stewart Family Funeral Home - Tyler on Feb. 12, 2026.
Services for Wallace Gayle, 86, of Tyler will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery with Andy Dunklin officiating.

Mr. Gayle passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026 in Tyler. He was born November 16, 1939 in Bryan, Texas to Velma Bond and Otis Gayle. Wallace "Wally" Gayle was a proud graduate of Alto high School class of 1958 and graduated from Texas A&M class of 1962.

He was a Certified Public Accountant and CFO, who owned and operated multiple businesses across Texas, leaving his mark in communities from Houston to Tyler, San Antonio, and Odessa. He had friends wherever he went with a boisterous laugh and loved making everyone around him laugh. He was a frequent driver for his wife's antique "junking". He enjoyed skiing with his buddies and would play golf as often as he could. Wallace loved to eat and was first in line and proud of it, always willing to lead the charge at the buffet.

Wallace was preceded in death by his parents Velma and Otis Gayle, his wife of twenty two years Dalene, his brothers Ted, Kenny, and Bobby Gayle.

He is survived by his loving family including his sister Glenda Chandler of Friendswood TX, his son Trent Gayle of Pflugerville,TX, his daughter Traci Carthel and husband Doug of Hennesey, OK, his stepdaughters Lisa Hagan and husband Mark of Whitehouse, TX, Leslie Bily and husband Kirk of Montebello NY, Lori Parsons and husband Tim of McKinney, TX; grandchildren Nicholas Gayle, Caitlin Carthel, Cailee Carthel, Gunner Carthel, Sarah Culpepper and husband Josh, Blake Lovelady and wife Leia, Brooke Kemp and husband Daniel, Emily DeFelice and husband Jacob, Kyle Bily, Logan Parsons, and Luke Parsons; great-grandchildren Addison Hudnall, Avery Culpepper, Austin Culpepper, Kinlee Lovelady, Hayes Kemp, and Lola DeFelice.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers at Prestige Estates for their loving care and going above and beyond for our dad.

I first met Wally when he moved to Alto around age 12. He remained one of my best friend for life. He was talented athelete in all sports, especially football and golf. He was our quarterback and ran the plays to perfection, except for one game. That night he called a running play to the right, but he went left. This happened 3 more times and of course the team was chewed out by him each time. Then the coach discovered that Wally had a concussion. We would go to Ruidoso each Labor Day for a week of golf at Jerry McCarty's cabin. Wallace was the only person from Alto that could play par golf.(Sorry McCarty)
Wallace was also an excellant student. He made straight A's and never studied. (That I was aware of)
Wallace dearly loved Dalene and passed up many golf games because he loved her even more than he loved to beat us in golf.
My sympathy to Trent, Traci, and all of Dalene's family.
