WALLACE WILLIAMS Obituary

WALLACE W. WILLIAMS III

May 28, 1950 – June 9, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wallace W. Williams III on June 9, 2024, in Palm Springs, California, at the age of 74, due to complications from a stroke. Born on May 28, 1950, in Delano, California, Wallace was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, educator, and coach who inspired countless individuals with his unwavering passion and determination.

Wallace settled in Calipatria, California, where he dedicated his career to teaching Physical Education at the local high school. While there, he became a highly successful basketball and football coach, shaping the lives of his players and students by pushing them to be the very best they could be. His drive, leadership, and compassion left a lasting mark on all who knew him.

Wallace is survived by two devoted sisters, his son, Jeremy (Trinna) Williams, his daughter, Cassandra Williams, five cherished grandsons, four beloved great-grandsons, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Aline Williams, four siblings, and his dear daughter Odessa.

Though he is no longer with us, Wallace's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many students and athletes whose lives he touched.

He was a great inspirational figure!! I was blessed to have him as principal for my four years at John R Rogers. He lead with compassion and understanding, always had a story to tell to drive home his point. He left his mark on anyone he met. He will be missed but never forgotten. God bless to his children and family.

I'm sad to hear of Coach Williams passing. He was my basketball coach in High School. Those were great years. I read the messages from Coach Sandy George and Anita Gonzalez. They are both spot on. Coach Williams was a good man and an excellent coach with HIGH expectations. He demanded your best every day, every game. He was intense and we thrived on that. One of the things I remember most... his eyes. His eyes were intense but when he was relaxed, they were also bright.

To Jeremy and the rest of his family, I extend my deepest condolences. To Coach Williams, I pray you rest in eternal peace. Thank you for giving us your best while you asked the best from us. You left an honorable legacy. I will never forget you.

It is so sad to hear the passing of my friend and teaching partner for so many years at CHS! Wallace was first and foremost a good man....an excellent educator, an extraordinary coach, and a kind heart....he demanded your best effort whether teaching or coaching....i loved teaching with him and we built a great physical education program together.....he was tough but always fair on his players....and he got the best results from them.....it was such a joy to work with him and be his friend.....I will miss him....and so will all his students and players that were lucky enough to have him as their teacher or coach....we had great years together as teaching team....i will never forget him.....THANK YOU WALLACE for the memories, good times,
laughs, & being teaching buddies - you were great!
My condolences to your remaining family.

My husband was Wallace's footbal1 coach during the 1968 season. We heard his name a lot around our house and the community. Wallace was respected and thought of fondly. Dian Self (wife of Coach John Self)

He was my basketball coach in the 80´s and led our girls1982 basketball team to league champs and CIF Champs.
Later on in life we became friends and he was someone I could confide in.
Many times crying I would knock on his door "Mr Williams do you have a minute?" Of course, we´d sit outside his front yard and talk for hours.
Sharing stories and struggles I felt better talking to him.
I would stop by and visit during Thanksgiving and Christmas too until I moved away, my sister Rozanne was able to check up on him.
My last visit was about a month before he passed away. I asked him Mr Williams what would you like me to bring you to eat? He said a cheeseburger, fries and Dr Pepper. I took him a double cheeseburger, fries and Dr Pepper.
As a coach he was tough and I feared him out of respect he expected the best from us.
I asked him Mr Williams you are such a good coach and teacher. Will you ever coachor teach? His reply was
I will never work for anybody but THE LORD
Thank you for your sincere friendship for 42 years
