Walter Bakula Obituary
Walter was cherished and loved for fifty years by his "steady girlfriend" and best friend, his loving wife Virginia Bakula. He's the proud father of Walter James Bakula Jr.(Lyndzee) and Mary Donovan (Ryan).
He loved his brothers, Louis (Carol), James, John(Rose), Anthony (Sharon) and Joseph. He was also Brother-in-law to Ninphia Ridley (George) and Michael Dattilo. He is a beloved cousin, uncle, and friend to many.
Walter proudly served in the United States Navy from 1970-1992. He participated in Operation Desert Storm and received honors on the USS Sampson in 1986 for recovering the pieces of The Challenger disaster off the coast of Cape Canaveral. He made his home, where he was stationed, in Mayport, Florida.
He loved sharing stories of his deployments, the amazing things he saw and the incredible people he met. He would always leave you laughing. He loved music, motorcycles and never missed Jeopardy.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2400 Mayport Road, Jacksonville, FL 32233 on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 9:00 AM with a reception to follow at the Church hall. The Burial will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 11:00am 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
