Rev. Walter L. Barth

Rev., Walter L. Barth, 101, passed away Wednesday, November 28th 2012 at Lutheran Life Villages in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He was born April 30th 1911 to Dr. & Mrs. G. Christian Barth in St. Louis MO. Walter served 1 year as Assistant to his father at Concordia Church in Cincinnati Ohio. He then became Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Brazil, IN (1936 - 1940), Calvary Lutheran Church, Indianapolis, IN (1940 - 1955); Executive Secretary of Board of Directors of the Northern Nebraska District Lutheran Church (1955 - 1971) ; Associate Pastor of Bethlehem Luthern Church Ft Wayne, IN (1971-1977); He retired from full time ministery as Pastor of Visitation of Zion Lutheran Church in 1985. Chaplan of South Side Optimist Club for 15 years and Chaplan of Woodview Health Care in Ft. Wayne, IN. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Optimist Club. In December 1997 Rev. Barth published his Memoirs, the model of his life are the words of the Apostle St. Paul. "For me to Live is Christ and to die is Gain." He is survived by his dauther Sylvia, (Ken) Haynes of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and son Philip (Lucy) Barth of Greenwood, IN; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a brother Dr. Karl Barth of Milwaulkee, WI. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Elfrieda C. Barth in 1984 and son, Warren C. Barth in 1993. Funeral service is 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2nd 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, 2314 South Hanna Street with calling 1 hour prior. Calling also from 2 - 5 pm Saturday at D.O. McCombs and Sons, Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road.
