Walter J. Belanger, 91, of Southington, CT passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Walter was born on January 30, 1934 in Caribou, Maine, one of eighteen children, to the late Francois and Josephine (Sanfacon) Belanger.
Walter proudly served in the U.S. Army for 22 years as a Sergeant First Class, Clinical Medical Specialist, from 1956 – 1979 and was awarded numerous medals, most notably the Bronze Star and Air Medal.
Walter earned his nursing degree from Regents College and after his military retirement he was employed by the Hawaiian Corrections Department for 13 years and the Hawaiian VA Hospital, retiring in 1998. Walter loved animals, especially his beloved cats, Princess Happy and Princess Molly, and was active in the Hawaiian Organ Club.
Walter was predeceased by all of his siblings; Lionel, Lewis, Patrick, Edward, Aurele, William, Wilson, Bernard, Nelson, Richard and Joel Belanger, Louise McNelly, Cecile Guerette, Blanche Cowett, Irene Lajoie, Doris Plourde and Joann Speziale. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Rosalind Belanger and Wilma Belanger and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and many great friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society (https://cthumane.org/).
