Walter Scott Bliss Jr.

Walter Scott Bliss, Jr. died peacefully in his Denham Springs home on November 9, 2014 at the age of 94. A veteran of WWII, he served in the United States Air Force from September 1942 through January 1946. His two daughters and sons-in-law, Tommie and Tom Ashby, Bonnie and Michael Meaux; his grandchildren, Alicia Manuel-Barrios, Bridget Manuel, Candace Martin and Stephen Martin; his seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews survive Walter. He is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Taylor-Bliss; parents, Walter Scott Bliss, Sr. and Aubyn Barrow Bliss; brothers, Henry and William Bliss, Sr.; sisters, Marion Bliss Miller, Ida Bliss Weiland, Margaret Bliss, Francis Bliss, Sarah Bliss Spillman and Helen Bliss Flores. Walter was born on October 29, 1920 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He began attending Louisiana State University in 1938, but put his education on hold when his country called upon him to serve in 1942. Upon completion of his service to our country in 1946, he returned to Louisiana State University from where he attained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1947. Following graduation, he immediately began a lifelong career at IBM, from where he retired at the age of 65 in 1985. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, patient father who loved unconditionally. All who knew him regarded him universally as a generous, loving and compassionate individual who loved to garden, and bowl. He was a member of the Cast Off Square Dance Club for over twenty years and was an active and dedicated member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Walter gave generously to many charities throughout his life. Memorial services will be held at Seale Funeral Home on S. Range Ave. in Denham Springs. Visitation shall be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, with funeral services to follow immediately thereafter. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Walter's life.
